3rd May: More Cranes

I spent most of this morning down at the 2nd viewing platform at Ham Wall RSPB. I was chatting to a guy who was visiting from Nottingham, and told him that we had been seeing cranes fairly regularly recently, with most sightings being of birds flying North at 10 o'clock-ish, and jokingly mentioned that we should look up at that time.
Sure enough (though admittedly they first broke the horizon 10 minutes early!) a magnificent flock of 18 birds gave us great birds as they flew North over the reserve, bugling loudly. At one point they were circling really low and looked like they wanted to land, but a helicopter spooked them and they carried on. They all appeared to be wearing colour-rings, so were part of the Great Crane Project.
